Over the weekend my husband Adam and I threw a little baby gender reveal party with a few of our close friends and family. Some people have not heard of a gender reveal party and are probably wondering what it is as it is a fairly new thing expecting parents are doing nowadays. Basically, the obstetrician, ultrasound technician or blood test results can tell someone you bring along to the appointment or write down or post the baby’s gender to someone of your choosing so only that person knows the baby’s gender. In our case, my mother was given the baby’s gender in an envelope and she organised the correct colours of the balloon and cookies for our reveal.
We chose to go with popping a big balloon which when popped explodes with confetti the colour of the baby’s gender. Blue for a boy and pink for a girl. We decided to go with popping a balloon as it seemed to have the biggest impact and also seemed the most exciting option for us. Other popular options I’ve seen are cutting open a cake with pink or blue colour on the inside and opening a box containing either pink or blue small balloons which float out of it.
When we popped our balloon we were very surprised and excited to see blue confetti explode in the air! We are having a boy! As you can see from the photos my husband Adam was very much hoping for a boy!
I wasn’t originally planning on doing a blog post on the party, as you can tell by the quality of the images and video, but it has been such a hit on Instagram and I have received so many messages asking about it that I thought perhaps I would share it with you after all.
It really was a fun day and a great way to share the exciting news with people you love.
As an avid Snapchatter we also had our own personalised Snapchat Geofilter for the day which was a cute touch and a fun way for our guests to share their snaps of the reveal. If you haven’t added me on Snapchat yet, my username is: breerobertson.
We also had a selection of baby themed cookies from Savvy Cakes in the shapes of a heart, rocking horse and baby rattle made in the baby’s gender colour which were brought out right after the balloon pop for guests to nibble on for something sweet.
